Complimentary Classroom Design Aids for Educational Institutions
Proto Labs is making available to educational institutions a variety of resources—at no charge—to assist you in the development of tomorrow’s innovators, designers, and entrepreneurs.
As part of our service, Proto Labs is committed to educating designers and engineers about part design for optimal manufacturing and success in the marketplace. Since concepts taught in the classroom can sometimes be challenging to translate into the practical knowledge necessary for success on the job, we’d like to offer tomorrow’s professionals access to our instructional tools and design aids.
Proto Labs’ design aids demonstrate a variety of key concepts, such as how complex features can be designed into parts for injection molding, how different resins impact finish, design elements that enhance or compromise quality, and more.
Please indicate the number of each design aid you’d like us to send you. Again, there is no cost to you for these materials.
Torus The Protomold® Torus demonstrates complex features (clips, bosses, bumpoffs, ribs, etc.) that can be designed into injection molded parts. An informational user key describes the features and mold-making techniques used to produce them for a variety of different purposes.
You have requested a quantity greater than 100. If you require more than 100 of this item, contact education@protolabs.com.
Protogami™ The Protogami was designed to show the interaction of materials and surface finishes. Its 3-dimensional flexagons expose a different set of resins with each turn. Each face demonstrates six different resins in one of four finishes. An informational guide, highlighting the materials, finishes, and design features used is included, along with assembly instructions.

Design Cube The Protomold® Design Cube illustrates key aspects of part design for injection molding. It showcases a range of available surface finishes, as well as examples of good and bad form for bosses, gussets, and ribs. It also demonstrates the impact on part quality of overly thick or thin sections, and ways to incorporate holes for optimal resin flow. An informational user key is included.

Demo Mold Do your students know the difference between a sprue, runner, side-action, and ejector pin? It can be difficult to explain how injection molds work without a physical model, so we developed one for just this purpose. With our Demo Mold, students can see the components of a mold and how they work. A key describing the moveable pieces and their features is also included, along with a mold terminology glossary.

Prototyping Processes Poster Our Prototyping Process Poster serves as an at-a-glance resource for prototype decision-making that is complete with process descriptions, an examination of material properties of parts produced by each process, and even a helpful decision tree that highlights key questions to consider when choosing a prototyping process. It serves as a condensed version of the Prototyping Process white paper (accessible via our online Resources), demonstrating the importance of selecting the best process for every project; impacting time-to-market, product performance, profitability and marketplace success.

Injection Molding Part Design for Dummies Injection Molding Part Design for Dummies helps teach the basic principles of the injection molding process, the easy-to-follow rules that can help avoid costly mistakes, and the vocabulary necessary to communicate effectively on a project. This book gives students the tools they need to identify design considerations that can drastically improve the quality of a part and the speed at which it can be manufactured.
