We’re trading in the Midwest sleet and snow this week for some much-appreciated sunshine at a mix of industry conferences. If you happen to be in California or Arizona right now, look for us.
Pacific Design & Manufacturing
PD&M is co-located with Medical Design & Manufacturing (MD&M), both underway in Anaheim, California (Feb. 10-12). If you’re here, come find us in booth #4049 to see some of the exciting things we’re debuting at the show (besides our completely revamped booth)! We are officially launching turning capabilities within our CNC machining service as well as one- and two-day quick-turn shipment on 3D-printed parts built in stereolithography (SL) and selective laser sintering (SLS). We’re also participating in two panel discussions on accelerating speed to market by using 3D printing for rapid prototyping.
Just north of PD&M in San Francisco, we’re in the midst of Photonics West (booth #113), a show focused on all things light — photonics, optics, and of course, lasers! The show packs in 20,000 visitors over its six-day run (Feb. 7-12).
How does Proto Labs fit into the conference? Well, we not only produce housings, fixtures and other prototypes and low-volume components for optical-based devices and products, we manufacture clear plastic and newly launched optical liquid silicone rubber lenses for products. We’ve seen a lot of early interest in direct metal laser sintering (DMLS), a 3D printing process for building fully dense metal parts. We appreciate the engaging manufacturing conversation we’ve had so far with the very technically versed (and we must say, fashion forward) crowd.
The four-day show (Feb. 8-11) wraps up today in beautiful Phoenix, Arizona, which has been a welcome respite for Proto Labs’ winter-weary Minnesotans. The conference brings together more than 5,000 members of the global engineering community for training sessions, keynote speeches and networking opportunities. We’re proud to be a part of the partner pavilion, where we are able to connect with attendees who are long-time Proto Labs customers, individuals who didn’t know a service like ours existed and everyone in between. Come say hi to us at booth #544. We also just announced our new partnership in the MySolidWorks Manufacturing Network, which connects users with trusted and reliable manufacturers. Oh, and we attended a rodeo that SOLIDWORKS hosted at Corona Ranch last night and held a pig.
So yeah, busy week at Proto Labs.
