The UK’s Government’s Industrial Strategy opens with a bold claim...

Its aim, it says, is to boost productivity by backing businesses to create good jobs and increase the earning power of people throughout the UK. To do this, it says, the nation must develop the most innovative economy in the world.

We couldn’t agree more.

As the world’s fastest manufacturer of custom prototypes and on-demand production parts, innovation is at the heart of everything we do. By dramatically speeding up the time in which plastic and metal parts can be produced, we help some of the world’s most cutting-edge companies bring pioneering products to market in a way which would have been unthinkable just a few years ago.

Not that long ago, if you wanted to turn your bright idea into a prototype you could expect to be drawn into a long-winded design and feasibility process with seemingly no end in sight. That was bad for innovation, bad for productivity and bad for your business. Thanks to the development of complex – but proven – software, advanced automation and a team which lives, breathes and eats innovation, Protolabs can now reduce that process down to a matter of days – or even hours in some cases.

In doing so, we are helping transform the manufacturing process to meet the requirements of this new digital age without sacrificing any of the quality which producers, buyers and consumers so rightly expect. It is no exaggeration to say that the technological revolution of Industry 4.0 can change the world in a way not seen since the great Industrial Revolution born within a stone’s throw of our Telford base in Coalbrookdale in the 18th century.

We are immensely proud to be following in the incredible footprints of the fathers of that revolution and the work they did in establishing Great Britain as the economic powerhouse of the globe. By embracing innovation we will meet the Government’s ambition and once again put this country at the front of an exciting new world.
